Cannes Film Festival All Excited About… Cannibalism?

(Published May 19, 2016)

Superheroes are so last year. In 2016, cannibalism is all the rage.

The Cannes film festival is where everyone who’s anyone in the film industry goes to show off their latest flick and fashion. This year, reporters noted that one on-screen theme seemed oddly prevalent: cannibalism.

At least five of the movies screened at the festival featured cannibalistic themes. Slack Bay features a family of ferrymen who feast on wealthy tourists. Characters in children’s film The Trolls live in constant fear of being gobbled up by their cousins. And even vegetarians get in on the action: Raw centers around a veggie-loving vet student who develops a taste for human blood.

So why the sudden interest in Hannibal Lecter’s favorite hobby? Because Hollywood believes that there’s no better way to depict “reality” than to show people literally eating each other.

3B Productions’ producer Jean Brehat said that “it’s a metaphor for the social struggles…the rich are eating the poor more and more.” Wow, the restaurants in L.A. have gone horribly downhill.

And of course, “hyper-capitalism” is to blame.

Petit Film’s Jean des Forets added that “cannibalism has a very strong symbolic value linked to people getting rich while others are getting poorer.” Really? Eating other people doesn’t usually indicate wealth. Healthy, happy people just don’t chew on their neighbors for dinner. Ask the Donner party. Or psychopath Jeffrey Dahmer.

The richest of the rich, at a festival dripping with excess, preaching about the ills of capitalism? The irony is too much to stomach (sorry).

It might be best for movie fans to keep their distance from their favorite A-list actors from now on. Unless they want to be lunch.

Nets Ignore Iranian Christian Pastor Arrested 3x After Converting From Islam

(Published May 18, 2016)

Go to Newsbusters for the original post.

Iranian authorities arrested a Christian pastor who converted from Islam for the third time on Friday, May 13. But Americans won’t hear that from the traditional news media.

According to U.K.-based Christian Solidarity Worldwide (CSW), Pastor Youcef Nadarkhani and his wife, alongside three other church members, were detained late last week after authorities raided their home.

Nadarkhani, now 38, converted to Christianity from Islam at the age of 19. For the past 10 years, he has led a home church from the Church of Iran denomination. The pastor was initially arrested in 2009 after questioning the Muslim monopoly on education at his children’s school. Amid international pressure, he was released in 2012 after being sentenced to execution by hanging for apostasy. He was re-arrested shortly afterward and released again.

While the Christian and local news outlets differed on the details, they all agreed on the pastor’s recent arrest.

After several hours of questioning following Friday’s arrest, authorities again released Nadarkhani and his wife. The three other church members are still in custody.

But don’t look to the major broadcast networks to cover or provide updates to this story. In the five days since the pastor’s arrest, ABC, CBS and NBC haven’t mentioned the incident once during their morning and evening news shows.

In fact, the networks have never reported on the pastor or the threats he has faced.

When it comes to Christian persecution, the networks habitually turn a blind-eye to stories. So far in 2016, the networks haven’t mentioned the topic of Christian persecution by ISIS once. The media also remained largely silent on the story of American Pastor Saeed Abedini’s imprisonment in Iran. And when CBS ran a story on Christian persecution in China, ABC and NBC continued to ignore the topic.

While the pastor and his wife have been released, concern for the others still in Iranian custody remain.

In a statement, CSW’s Chief Executive Mervyn Thomas pledged to “continue to call on Iran to fully respect its constitutional and international human rights obligations by ensuring that justice and equality before the law are guaranteed to all citizens, regardless of their religion or belief.”

If only the rest of the news media were as concerned with human rights for all.

BuzzFeed Likens ‘Gender-Segregated Bathrooms’ to Racial Segregation

(Published May 18, 2016)

BuzzFeed, once the go-to place for procrastination with quizzes like “What Kind of Pop-Tart Are You Actually,” is now joining forces with the rest of the liberal media.

On Tuesday, the news outlet tried its hand at teaching America a history lesson on bathrooms. The article, headlined “Gender-Segregated Public Bathrooms Have A Long, Ugly History,” attempted to prove that bathrooms separated by a person’s anatomy are a construct of American policy. According to BuzzFeed News, today’s bathrooms pose a “civil rights battle” not unlike racial segregation. And, of course, social conservatives are to blame.

For her story, BuzzFeed News’ LGBT editor Shannon Keating began by pointing to recent bathroom bills (or, in her words, “anti-trans” bills), such as North Carolina’s HB 2, which stop “trans people from using restrooms that match their gender identity.”

She likened this form of transgender “segregation” to racial segregation.

“[T]his brand of anti-trans panic is bound up in the natural evolution of American public restrooms, which have perpetuated gross inequities since their inception,” she wrote, “with racial segregation being the most obvious, and by far the most egregious, example.”

“Whatever civil rights battle is being waged at any given time in history,” she added, “you can almost guarantee that the bathroom will be a primary battleground: the place where the bogeyman lives.”

According to Keating, public restrooms were made for “one group of people” or “straight, white, able-bodied cisgender men, who alone in U.S. history have been able to pee in peace.”

While “[m]ost Americans consider bathrooms divided by gender to be a given born out of anatomical differences” Keating’s piece suggested that “a specific set of decisions made by a select few and governed by cultural values” played a role.

This bathroom issue began in the late 19th century “when the first law mandating gender separation was enacted,” according to Keating. She went on to list a number of U.S. laws and policies that have mandated “gender-segregated bathrooms.”

Keating, however, left out some key facts by shortening the “long history” of separated bathrooms

She conveniently failed to mention that the ancient Romans segregated their bath houses by sex, as did the ancient Greeks. Sweat houses in ancient Scandinavia were gender specific as well.

But that doesn’t work for Keating’s story where she claimed “segregated bathrooms” are a modern, American-created social construct. According to her, “gender-segregated bathrooms” give “credence to the illusion of innate binary gender distinctions.” (Catch that? Toilets versus urinals encourage the “myth” that two separate genders exist – the very self-evident “myth” that there are two different human anatomies. )

Keating went on to quote Yale professor Joel Sanders as saying that people shouldn’t be labeled “men” or “women” at all, but rather “embodied subjects.” Gender-neutral bathrooms are necessary because everyone has the equal need to pee, he quipped.

Thank goodness that’s one biological fact the Left can’t ignore.

The moral of Keating’s article: people shouldn’t be forced to identify as anything in particular in order to relieve themselves. Free and open toilets for everybody.

And when they aren’t, social conservatives are to blame.

“Under the pretense of ‘privacy’ and ‘safety,’ social conservatives are stoking cultural anxieties around bodily privacy, genitalia, and sexual deviance,” she concluded, “in order to keep trans people from participating in the public sphere, a fate of bathroom exclusion that befell women, people of color, families, and disabled people before them.”

She added, “The bogus fear of an aggressor is, at root, most likely the fear of the Other gaining power.”

Keating’s article is just the latest in a trend of media campaigning for the transgender movement. Last month, ABC initially ignored the massive boycott over Target’s bathroom policy. Another outlet falsely accused a conservative lawyer of threatening transgenders. NBC has spent a significant amount of time covering the lifestyles of transgender kids and adults. And several media outlets have dedicated time to advocating for more LGBT characters on TV.

Here’s a thought: if BuzzFeed doesn’t want to “identify” as another liberal news site, they should stick to the Pop-Tart quizzes.

Hillary Clinton Joins ‘Ghostbusters’ Cast on ‘Ellen’

Hillary Clinton: secretary of state, presidential candidate and, now, ghostbuster.

Entertainment Weekly announced Tuesday that Clinton will join the all-female cast of the upcoming Ghostbusters film on The Ellen DeGeneres Show airing May 25.

The Ghostbusters remake intends to prove that girls can hunt down ghosts just as well as the guys did 30 years ago. The four stars, Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones, have made a name for themselves as comedy powerhouses. Clinton appears to want to try her hand at comedy now too.

On Twitter, Ellen DeGeneres was ecstatic about this upcoming feminist dream show:

One feminist writer gushed that “maybe Clinton will bring them all her official “Woman Card,” so they can all carry feminism around in their wallets and rep Team Hillary.”
This is just another example of liberal Hollywood using its powerful platform to support its political candidates. The entertainment world boasts some of Clinton’s biggest fans – just look at CBS’ Madam Secretary (inspired by Clinton) or even the cast of ABC’s Scandal (whom Clinton visited on set).

Marc Jacobs Sells ‘Miley Hearts Planned Parenthood’ T-Shirts

(Published May 17, 2016)

Get ‘em while they last! For only $50, shoppers on Marc Jacobs’ website can buy a T-shirt featuring Miley Cyrus and give money to Planned Parenthood at the same time.

On Monday, Teen Vogue reported that the actress and singer, known for her wild antics and ‘twerking,’ has decided to use her fame for a cause she believes in: access to so-called “reproductive healthcare,” such as abortion.

miley cyrus

The T-shirt, called “Miley Hearts Planned Parenthood,” is the result of a collaboration between Cyrus and photographer Marilyn Minter, recipient of Planned Parenthood’s Woman of Valor award. The risqué design features Miley behind a steamy pane of glass with the words “pro-choice” traced in the fog.

The photos on the t-shirts are the outtakes from that photoshoot that produced a $5,500 print sold at Planned Parenthood’s annual spring luncheon.

And they aren’t stopping there. Miley and Minter alluded to even bigger plans for the future. Minter told a reporter that “we have a secret plan” to be unveiled in June, when SCOTUS decides the Whole Woman’s Health V. Hellerstedt case on abortion restrictions in Texas.
This isn’t the only social issue Cyrus preoccupies herself with. Just last year, she founded the Happy Hippie Foundation for LGBTQ youth and launched an #InstaPride campaign for the transgender movement.

But now, she has added a federally funded abortion organization to her list of “needy causes.”

Joan Malin, CEO of Planned Parenthood of New York, gushed over the support from “Marc, Miley, and Marilyn.” She, together with Planned Parenthood, couldn’t wait “to have the opportunity to wear their support on their sleeves, literally.”

Because the sale of the naked female body is an excellent way to “support” women (women already born, that is). Cyrus is probably too busy swinging on wrecking balls to catch the irony.

Charlotte Paper: Stop Being Afraid of Transgenders!

(Published May 16, 2016)

First it was the boogie monster, followed by the Sandman and Dracula. And now, the latest to join the list of irrational fears people have: the Transgender.

The Charlotte Observer has decided it knows why people are opposed to those with male genitalia sharing the bathroom with their daughters: they’re just scared of the idea, but they don’t need to be.

The heated debate over who uses what bathroom “has prompted a wave of unnecessary fears and unnecessary laws.” Why is this fear so unnecessary? Well, because according to the editorial, “the battle for equality has always been in part about overcoming discomfort – with blacks sharing facilities, with gays sharing marriage – then realizing that it was not nearly so awful as some people imagined.”

Yes, the right of African Americans to use the same water fountain as whites is being equated to Johnny’s “right” to urinate in the stall right next to Susie. To compare the demand of a tiny minority to violate the privacy of others to the struggles that millions of Black Americans faced is an offense to the civil rights movement.

The editorial comes on the heels of President Obama’s Friday decree, ordering all publicly funded schools to accommodate the wishes of transgender students. The paper claims that Obama’s “guidelines offer a path around fear and discomfort,” that instead of firing people up even more, the letter to the schools “will bring acceptance” and cause the debate to be “a non-issue.” Everyone will just hold hands and sing kumbayah as they all walk into the same bathroom, together.

For those who don’t want to give up their privacy in bathrooms and locker rooms, the article’s conveniently anonymous writer has a solution: just add curtains! “Offer those who are uncomfortable a chance to be comfortable, but give choice to everyone instead of taking it away from some.” Because a hanging piece of plastic is sure to bring “comfort” to those who just don’t want to get over their “fear” of transgenders in the wrong bathroom. And you can’t take away a “choice” that never existed before.

And in case anyone is still concerned, the writer mentions that “there have been no incidents involving locker rooms and bathrooms because of transgender policies.” So the man who choked an 8-year old girl in a public restroom last week in Chicago was not an incident. Definitely not. Or the Toronto man who was arrested for sexually assaulting several women in a locker room after he gained access by claiming he was transgender. Nope, no incidents to see here!

This editorial is just the latest in a string of absurd articles by the Charlotte Observer.Last week, the paper encouraged people to boycott their own city in protest of North Carolina’s HB 2 law. Even though continued boycotts will cause many people in the state to suffer financially, “some larger positives [will] eventually happen” because the “rights” of LGBT people will be protected.

Not one of the paper’s LGBT readers? Just relax and allow Obama to help you work through your irrational and unnecessary fears.

‘Hulk’ Actor Tells Grads to Spread Lefty Agenda

(Published May 13, 2016)

Mark Ruffalo makes a better Hulk than a commencement speaker.

The Oscar nominee best known for his role in The Avengers, Shutter Island, and Spotlight, addressed this year’s graduates from Ringling College of Art and Design yesterday.

In his rambling speech, he charged the graduates to go out and change the world through art. Specifically, to spread the ideas of acceptance of all different sexual identities and the dangers of global warming. “We have a chance to spread this human morality to the rest of the world,” he said. So driving a Prius and participating in gay pride parades are now considered part of the “human morality” that the whole world needs to adopt? What happened to the progressive belief that morality was subjective?

To prove his point about the power of art, Ruffalo brought up his 2010 movie The Kids Are Alright, a flick about a lesbian married couple raising kids. The movie supposedly shows “a marriage that look[s] just like every other marriage.” Because every marriage has to deal with their teenage kids setting out to locate the sperm donor that produced them, and then introduce him to the family. Totally normal.  Ruffalo preened, “this movie helped educate us, to be less afraid of this new human morality,” and that the 2016 Ringling graduates have a responsibility to also produce art that educates. Or indoctrinates, same thing.

Ruffalo has a history of making typical bone-headed liberal statements. Recently, he’s been busy on the campaign trail, stumping for the “charming” Bernie Sanders. He’s also claimed that the 2nd amendment wasn’t meant for individuals, and that anyone who attacks climate change advocates is “a coward.”

Unfortunately, liberal commencement speakers are common fare at colleges today. The Young America’s Foundation found that among the top 100 colleges and universities, 53% of commencement speakers slated for 2016 are liberals and only 14% are conservatives. These speakers include Secretary of State John Kerry, former NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Spike Lee, and Matt Damon.

With advice like Ruffalo’s ending charge to “just follow your heart’s contentment,” it’s no wonder that despite shelling out thousands of dollars, college graduates are pampered princesses completely unprepared for real life.

It’s Not Easy Being Cancelled: ABC Mercifully Shutters Muppets Show

(Published May 13, 2016)

After only one season, ABC has cancelled the reboot of The Muppets. The show was supposed to be an instant success (who doesn’t love Kermit and Miss Piggy?), but the reboot took on a dark and edgy flair that didn’t resonate with fans of the original Muppets.

Instead of sticking to what made the original Muppets a classic, this new batch used their TV platform to push a social agenda. One episode preached about gender fluidity. The male puppets expressed their interest in Josh Groban, and justified it by saying that Groban’s gender was fluid. Maybe puppets don’t really understand human biology. Ignorance, however, doesn’t change the fact that people still have the same biological parts every single morning.

Another episode attempted to bash Italian Americans who had not yet learned English. Never mind that Italians are a fully assimilated, hugely successful American immigration story. And the Left would never level the same criticism at any other ethnic group (Bienvenido a América!).

And in one last desperate effort to improve the show’s abysmal ratings, Miss Piggy pulled a Miley Cyrus and twerked and chest-jiggled her way through an office boardroom. Miss Piggy dressed as a stripper does not belong in a “family” show.

It’s not easy being green, and when a classic becomes just another branch on the TV sewer, it’s not easy making it either. After obtaining a pathetic 1.9 rating, ABC is saying goodbye to The Muppets. Sorry Kermit, but it looks like you’ll have to go find your rainbow connection somewhere else.

Media: Gay Cartoon Characters Needed to Fight Bigotry of Parents

(Published May 12, 2016)

Straight Disney characters are so 2015! Elsa should just let it go and embrace her inner lesbian princess. That’s what LGBT supporters are demanding of Frozen and other Disney films.

And now Washington Post writer Jessica Contrera has noticed the absence of gay characters in Disney as well. There have been some ambiguous relationships between minor characters, such as the two male antelope roommates in Zootopia, but these instances are only noticeable to the most observant of movie-goers. For the most part, kids’ “movies have quietly reinforced a very traditional standard for romantic love.” You know, the standard that has been good enough for 5,000 years of civilization and matters to 97% of humans.

But if Disney is going to keep up with changing cultural norms, Contrera says, that’ll have to change.

And plenty of Frozen fans are calling for that on Twitter, using the hashtag #GiveElsaAGirlfriend:

The push is on to get gay characters into kids’ movies and shows, along with other mainstream entertainment fare. Earlier this week, a Vanity Fair writer lamented the fact that Captain America was decidedly not gay. And GLAAD announced that Disney, among other studios, had a failing grade on its “Studio Responsibility Index” for its lack of LGBT characters. The Human Rights Campaign writes that “for LGBTQ youth who struggle to find acceptance, openly LGBTQ characters in movies and TV shows can become role models, providing inspiration and support to those who truly need it.”

So c’mon, Disney, get with the program! “Love is an open door,” right? What’s the problem with teaching kids that it’s OK to be gay?

Despite LGBT characters being standard-fare in adult shows and movies, Disney has been reluctant to include them in shows made for kids. It’s not because Disney is “close-minded.” Contrera reported that when Disney was asked if the company would include gay characters in future kids’ movies, they responded that the brand “has always been inclusive, with stories that reflect acceptance and tolerance and celebrate the differences that make our characters uniquely wonderful in their own way.” It’s because the company wants to turn a profit. Including positively portrayed gay characters “is a risk for children’s entertainment companies, who have a financial incentive to make movies as widely accessible — and therefore as non-controversial — as possible.”

2,000 retweets on Twitter doesn’t automatically equal millions at the box office. By not giving Elsa a girlfriend, Disney is acknowledging the fact that parents don’t want the gay rights agenda shoved into their children’s faces. If Disney is known for “reflecting changing norms,” then homosexuality isn’t as “normal” as the left wants it to be. The lefties may be ready for a gay princess, but parents who pay to take their little girls dressed in tutus and tiaras to see the latest princess film are not. They’d rather see what Elsa was intended to be: a strong and independent woman who didn’t need a relationship to define her.

Vanity Fair Expresses Disappointment Captain America Is Not Gay

(Published May 10, 2016)

Spoiler Alert: Captain America has a “flaw.” It may be hard to believe with his impeccable morals, charming personality and his, well, perfectly formed biceps, but yes, Cap has a fatal flaw – he’s not gay.

Most women will celebrate that. But not Vanity Fair writer Joanna Robinson, because in Marvel’s latest installment, Captain America: Civil War, Disney squashed any possibility of a romance between Steve Rogers and his longtime pal, Bucky. And she has bone to pick with Disney about that.

captain america

It isn’t that she wants Disney to make Cap come out of the closet, but at least let the dream of a Bucky and Cap relationship live on. “Would it really have hurt to keep their relationship ambiguous?” After all, says Ms. Robinson, most of Marvel’s heterosexual romances have been complete failures, so why not try something different and let the friendship between Captain America and the Winter Soldier blossom into something more? But no, Cap’s kiss with Agent Sharon Carter, which had less “juice than Bucky ogling Steve’s bulging bicep as Cap struggled to ground a helicopter,” firmly defined him as a straight man.

This won’t help bolster Disney’s standing in the “Studio Responsibility Index.” Last week, GLAAD announced that Disney, Paramount, and Warner Bros. all had failing grades for not having enough LGBT characters in their movies.

But no worries, families with young kids who love going to the superhero films! There will likely be LGBT Marvel characters in upcoming movies. Civil War director Joe Russo told Collider that “it’s incumbent upon us as storytellers who are making mass-appeal movies to make mass-appeal movies, and to diversify as much as possible.” And the massive success of the franchise will allow them to pursue “bolder and bolder choices” in future installments.

With an opening weekend of $181.7 million, Civil War isn’t missing “mass-appeal.” Despite all of that heterosexual nonsense, Civil War is great movie and you should go.
