BuzzFeed Fears Trump’s Policies Could Lead To Mass Lynchings

In 1891, the largest mass lynching in American history took place in New Orleans. BuzzFeed fears Donald Trump’s anti-immigrant policies could lead to another such incident.

BuzzFeed periodically departs from its standard fare of food quizzes and puppy pictures to produce more substantive articles. Today, that involved a history lesson on the 1891 mass lynching of 11 Italian Americans. The article’s title is “How a 125-year-old mass lynching tried to make America great again.” The borrowing of Trump’s slogan was not accidental.

The lynchings happened at a time when Italians were bearing much of the burden of strong anti-immigration sentiments among Americans. When a New Orleans police chief was murdered, many automatically blamed the city’s Italian community and sought revenge. “Religion, economic forces, and terrorism shaped white Americans’ views of Italian immigrants as fundamentally foreign, as unwanted competition for labor, and as carriers of violent radicalism,” according to the article. This is supposed to echo views on radical Islamists in today’s America.

BuzzFeed goes on to detail how the Italians were the unjust victims of American nativism, and makes various parallels between the immigrant of the late 1800s and today. The writer claims that “then, as today, many Americans greeted the new immigrants with alarm, fearing that they were losing their country to foreigners.” Yes, silly Americans for being fearful of terrorists.

The article notes that “Donald Trump’s entire candidacy has been premised on purging the United States of the foreign enemies within as a means of restoring national greatness” and that he and his supporters “speak of Muslims and Mexicans in the same tone and language that was once reserved for their Italian-American ancestors, targeted by the nativist movement that began in the late 19th century.”

But what’s most important about the article isn’t what it says, but what it doesn’t. Italians were not flying airplanes into buildings, or beheading innocent French priests. They weren’t walking into nightclubs intent on committing a mass shooting as possible. They weren’t driving trucks over parades of people. Anti-immigrant sentiment against Italians cannot be compared to that of today.

The author added that “echoing the immigration argument of his era — and foreshadowing the dividing lines of our own — Republican Sen. Henry Cabot Lodge of Massachusetts” warned that unless “the United States enacted more restrictive immigration laws, he warned, “we must be prepared for just such events as that at New Orleans.’” Anti-immigration sentiment leads to mass immigrant murders.

It’s nice that BuzzFeed tried its hand at a history lecture. But maybe next time, do it with more facts and less politics.

Anti-Catholic ‘Real O’Neals’ Season 2 Debuts On National Coming Out Day

Despite abysmal ratings, ABC announced in May that it was green-lighting the anti-Catholic Real O’Neals for a second season. And now they’ve announced just when that second season will premiere: October 11, National Coming Out Day.

real o'neals

Loosely based on the childhood of anti-Catholic gay sex columnist Dan Savage, the Real O’Neals follows a Catholic family from Chicago living a perfect Catholic life until suddenly everything falls apart. The parents wanted a divorce, one son had an eating disorder and a chronic masturbation problem, and the other son came out as gay. The first season was laden with a never-ending train of jabs at Catholics, conservatives, and family values.

The show was so egregious that even critics had nothing positive to say. A New York Post writer went so far as to call it a “witless collection of offensive anti-Catholic cliches.” Major sponsors pulled out and season one ended with rock-bottom ratings.

So to ensure a more successful second round, season two is ramping up…to be more of the same. Although the show was originally slated to air mid-season, the premiere date was pushed up to October. ABC credits this to the “wave of popularity” the show has received. Since it has no actual popularity, it’s more likely the network is taking the opportunity to further bash traditional values.

Along with the premiere date unveiling, ABC revealed a list of guest stars who will be making an appearance this season, all of whom are gay. Glee actress Jane Lynch, former NSYNC member Lance Bass, YouTube star Tyler Oakley, and drag queen RuPaul will all be featured in the upcoming season.

But really, there’s no need for the Real O’Neals to air on National Coming Out Day. They came out as Catholic-haters long ago.

Oscar-Winning Actor Criticizes ‘Conservative’ Hollywood

(Published on August 4, 2016)

Hollywood deserves to be criticized, but not because it is, in any way, a bastion of conservatism.

jared leto

Actor Jared Leto disagrees. In a recent interview with GQ Style for his movie Suicide Squad, the Oscar winner was asked if America was ready to accept a gay leading actor. Leto’s response was that in Hollywood, “I definitely don’t think a gay leading man would have the same opportunities as a straight leading man.”

And why is that? Because “this is still a very conservative business.”

Very “conservative” Hollywood granted Leto the 2014 Academy Award for best supporting actor for his role as a transgender woman in Dallas Buyers Club. Over 100 members of the “conservative” business recently signed an anti-Trump pledge. The “conservative” industry has spent more than three decades writing scripts promoting a Hilary presidency. And it’s no secret that this very “conservative” environment blacklists actors who come out as actual conservatives.

Leto also finds some previously inoffensive words offensive. He added that “I think you could say the same for minorities. What a word, “minority.” Have we taken that word off the list yet? ‘Cause it should be.”

From Star Trek’s Sulu being openly gay, to the push for Frozen’s Elsa to have a girlfriend, it’s clear that Hollywood isn’t opposed to including LGBT characters.

Hollywood’s not in the business of being conservative, Mr. Leto. They’re in the business of making money. And apparently that sort of thing just doesn’t sell.

James Corden, Denis Leary Sing ‘Trump’s an A**hole’

(Published on August 4, 2016)

Now that he’s is the official Republican nominee, the Trump bashing is soaring to new heights.

On Wednesday night’s episode of The Late Late Show, host James Corden teamed up with comedian Denis Leary to sing a new song: “Trump’s An A**hole.”

The skit was an updated version of Leary’s 1993sketch where he used the term for himself. But in 2016, the song is all about Trump.

Posing as Bill and Hillary Clinton, white pantsuit included, the pair explained that they wanted to sing about “that special feeling we all get when [Donald Trump] speaks.”

Corden-as-Hillary suggested that “maybe he’s talking from the bottom of his heart, maybe below his heart. Maybe he’s talking out of his a**.”

Before really digging into Trump, the “Clintons” made fun of themselves, joking about Bill’s affairs and Hillary voting in favor of “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell.” But now, Hillary is “just a girl fighting for common sense.”

However, despite all of the Clintons’ flaws, “no matter how bad we can be, we’ve never said Mexicans are rapists on TV.”

They went on to warble about the many things Trump has done that the Clintons have not, like “I’ve never asked Russia to hack the USA.” And “he won’t show his taxes, he won’t even try. He’s kickin’ out babies when they start to cry.”

And periodically, the two broke out into the chorus of “Trump’s an a**hole.” Which, they didn’t sing just once. Or twice. But a resounding 29 times. The censors could hardly keep up.

And in keeping with the idea that the Clintons are “good marriage role models,” ‘Bill and Hillary’ (men Corden and Leary) shared a passionate kiss at the end of the song.

Both men have made their political opinions known in the past. Earlier this year, Corden made a jab at Trump’s wall while hosting the Tony Awards. And Denis Learyonce said that “I think that President Obama is the greatest President in the history of all of our Presidents and that he can do no wrong.”

With that in mind, don’t hold your breath for a song about the things Hillary has done.

Huffington Post: Gays Who Care About Other Gays Can’t Vote Trump

(Published on August 3, 2016)

Go to Newsbusters for the original post.

The Huffington Post doesn’t want anyone besides straight, white males voting for Trump.

donald trump

The title of HuffPo’s Queer Voices latest article says it all: If You’re Gay and Support Trump, You Don’t Care About The Rest of Us. Author James Michael Nichols writes that “if you identify as gay, you are part of a community of marginalized people whose rights and very survival are threatened by the prospect of a Trump presidency.” Yes, their survival is threatened by Trump.

Nichols was galvanized by the number of LGBT members who have endorsed Trump, such as PayPal founder Peter Thiel and Caitlyn Jenner.

Nichols believes gay men can’t support Trump not just because he is anti-LGBT (contrary to Trump’s public statements). But because as a minority group themselves, homosexuals have a responsibility to defend “the rights of people of color, women, disabled people, people of other nationalities and people of different classes, in addition to sexual and gender minorities.” That means they need to get with the program and only vote Democrat.

Nichols proclaims that “it’s time that we as queer people ― especially white, gay-identifying men with access to capital ― care about the most vulnerable members of our community enough to let their voices and experiences shape our actions, ideologies and policies.”

So, “if you’re a white, cis gay man who is privileged in every way,” (i.e. living proof that homosexuals aren’t actually discriminated against), “the message that your statement of support for Trump sends to all other minority groups is that you don’t give a sh*t about them.”

Whatever happened to white men not imposing their views on everyone else, Mr. Nichols? Shouldn’t people be allowed to vote for whoever they want to?

Not that HuffPo has ever been neutral in its opinion of potential Trump voters. The publication recently wrote that Trump supporters are in need of straitjackets and are afflicted by “Mad Don Disease.”

ABC’s Sunny Hostin claimed yesterday that media bias doesn’t exist. Right.

Will Smith: Trump Support Is ‘Collective Insanity’

(Published on August 3, 2016)

Will Smith thinks anyone who supports Trump is insane. Really.

will smith

Donald Trump and Rosie O’Donnell have had a running feud for almost a decade. The two have traded a number of vicious jabs at each, both on Twitter and national TV. A year ago, at his first Republican debate, Trump called O’Donnell a “fat pig” and actor Will Smith is just now getting around to commenting on it.

During an interview for his new movie Suicide Squad, Smith said that “for a man to be able to publicly refer to a woman as a fat pig, that makes me teary. And for people to applaud, that is absolutely f**king insanity to me.”

Calling Trump out for his statements about women is legitimate, but Smith didn’t offer any criticism of people applauding O’Donnell for calling her rival an “orange slug” or a “sh*t stain.” That’s a-okay, apparently.

Smith continued to explain why Trump can’t be president. “Of all the things he has said, and we could go through the laundry list, that was the one that was such an absolute illustration of a darkness of his soul. I just cannot figure out how people can clap for that,” and that the amount of support Trump has is “absolutely collective insanity.”

The media has been pushing the idea that people have it out for Muslims, and Smith has taken the bait. He believes that “there is this really separatist non-inclusive xenophobic, racist wave that is sweeping the globe that is making us pull apart farther than putting us together.”

Maybe people aren’t xenophobic; maybe they just don’t want to be killed by terrorists. Guess that kind of thinking is collective insanity too.

Secret Hypes ‘Wage Gap’ To Sell Deodorant

(Published on August 2, 2016)

Secret isn’t just selling deodorant these days; it’s also advertising the fabled ‘wage gap.’

In the company’s popular “Raise” commercial, a young woman stand in front of a bathroom mirror, nervously preparing to ask her boss for raise. But whether or not her deodorant can hold up against her anxiety takes a back seat to her battle for equal pay.

The disheveled woman practices several different approaches, from asking “Mr.Kendall” for a favor to lauding the success she’s achieved with the company and even trying out casually calling her boss “Bobby.”

What’s supposed to be the most compelling argument, however, is that “Todd makes more than I do, and he’s only worked here for two years.” Which, when asking for a raise, is irrelevant. If Todd has 3 pens on his desk, should you also have 3 pens? What an employee adds to the company’s value is what is important.

The commercial ends with text on the screen reading “at 3 o’clock Lucy does her part to close the wage gap.”

If only the gap existed in the first place. One of the Left’s trendy talking points is that women supposedly make 77 cents on every dollar that a man makes, but the statistics show that that just isn’t true. When the fact that men tend to take higher paying but more dangerous jobs and spend less hours at home, the actual wage gap is markedly less. Both The Daily Signal and liberal Politifact reported that the gap is a mere 5-7 cents.

But the media loves to ignore that fact. Instead, they spread around debunked statistics or make up their own to support their flawed argument that companies, and the economy, are inherently sexist.

This ad is one of several in Secret’s #StressTest campaign. Another depicts a woman being the first in a couple to say “I love you.” According to one of the company’s directors, the series is meant to explore what women are “still not really ‘allowed’ to do.”

But they are allowed to. Women, like Lucy, should feel free to ask for a pay raise. When companies like Secret constantly harp on the idea that women are disadvantaged by a sexist workplace, it makes the task far more intimidating.

Fashion Writer: Hillary in White, ‘Hopeful’; Melania in White, Racist

(Published on August 2, 2016)

White is ok, so long as it’s worn by the Democratic nominee.

hilllary and melania

Two weeks ago, Philadelphia Inquirer fashion critic Elizabeth Wellington bashed Melania Trump for daring to wear a white dress for her RNC speech. Wellington acknowledged that “on a strictly fashion note,” Melania pulled off an “angelic look.” But the white designer dress was a “scary statement,” and supposedly gave off the subliminal message “that in the G.O.P. white is always right.”

Ten days later, Wellington changed her mind and decided that white was an ok color for politicians to wear.

When Hillary Clinton took the stage last week, also garbed in all white, Wellington had nothing but praise for her fashion choice. This time around, the critic wrote that “white is a hue that’s both soft and strong,” not scary. She went on to claim that “Clinton’s white pantsuit is telling us she has arrived. This is surreal. A dream come true.”

Trump’s “all-white ensemble displayed the kind of foreignness that is accepted by her husband’s political party.” But Hillary? “She seemed happy. She sounded excited. She appeared hopeful. And that was all reflected in her clothes.”

Melania’s white dress told America that Donald Trump is a racist. But not Hillary’s garb! “Clinton’s white suit told America loud and clear that she joyfully accepted the opportunity to run for president of the United States of America.”

Two articles. Two completely different views. One biased liberal author.

Spider-Man Writer Creates Transgender Superhero

(Published on August 1, 2016)

Here’s the latest step in the trans agenda, coming to a book store near you.

Meet Chalice, the world’s newest transgender superhero. The dude dressed in a miniskirt is set to be the central hero in the Alters series, a comic ironically about societal outcasts who end up with superpowers.

chalice

Most superheroes only have to conceal one secret identity. But Chalice makes his life more difficult by having to conceal two. Chalice is actually a male college student named Charlie Young, but begins transitioning to female, unbeknownst to his parents. One of his brothers has cerebral palsy and Charlie is afraid his gender crisis might further upset his family. Yeah, no kidding.

The series will feature a whole host of characters with some kind of mental or physical anomaly. One character is a quadriplegic; another struggles with PTSD. One story will be about an “unattractive heroine.”

The creator of the series, Paul Jenkins, is a veteran Marvel author, having written for the Spectacular Spider-Man, The Incredible Hulk, and X-Men Origins comics. He’s the son of a gay, single mom who provided much of the inspiration for the Alters series. The colorist for the series, Tamra Bonvillain, is a trans woman.

Although Jenkins insists that Alters will not be set of moral lessons on acceptance and tolerance, it will be just that by default. He describes Chalice as “only [able to] be herself when she’s not herself,” teaching readers that Chalice’s gender confusion is completely legitimate.

Although Chalice is not technically the first transgender superhero, he is the first to be a central character. He’s preceded by trans Alysia Yeoh, who was DC’s Batgirl’s roommate.

In a slap at the current bathroom debate, the debut issue of Alters, which hits shelves next month, will have a special surprise for its North Carolina readers. Although in the other 49 states the series cover will feature a profile of Chalice, in NC the front picture will be of Chalice sending greetings from the statehouse.

But as author Jenkins said, Chalice’s story isn’t meant to be political commentary. Nothing liberals do ever is.

Last week, celebrities took to Twitter to mourn the future of America following Donald Trump’s acceptance speech. Their reaction after Hillary’s celebrity-filled moment was the complete opposite. The convention hall was filled with the Hollywood elite – from Morgan Freeman’s voice over on the Shonda Rhimes Hillary video to politicking from actress Chloe Grace Moretz.

Here are some the most outrageous of those who stuck to Twitter.

Josh Gad must be feeling better after lamenting Trump’s “vision of darkness, scare tactics, isolation, and fear mongering” last week. Best known for his role as Olaf inFrozen, tweeted out:

According to former American Idol judge Paula Abdul, Clinton’s speech definitely wasn’t divisive at all:

About that divisive rhetoric…Parks and Recreation actor Billy Eichner decided against eloquence and got right to the point:

Mean Girls actress Amanda Seyfried channeled her role as fictional “dumb blonde” Karen Smith by comparing voting for President to choosing a pet:

Some were dozing off during the speech. But only an Academy Award-winning actress could show such an intense display of emotion during Hillary’s remarks. The Help actress Octavia Spencer had this to tweet:

Singer Josh Groban really liked the Dems new catchphrase:

Greg Grunberg, best known for playing Matt Parkman in TV show Heroes, at least had one piece of criticism:
